“After spending my entire legal career thus far in the courthouse (as a clerk at the 5th DCA) and as a litigator, I have recently taken a leap into a new practice area. Over the past few months, I have transitioned from McLin Burnsed’s wonderful litigation team at Legacy Plaza in Leesburg, under the guidance and mentorship of our managing partner, Phil Smith, to our estate planning practice group in Lake Sumter Landing in the Villages.
The decision to make such a drastic change was not made easily, as I carefully weighed the pros and cons of diving into life as a transactional attorney, putting the courtroom behind me and learning the very complex ins and outs of wills and trusts. Thankfully, I have been surrounded by great teachers—board members Christina Campbell, Jeff Skates, and Sarah Uhrik—who have patiently and thoroughly set me up for success. This new role has given me the opportunity to meet with clients every day to explore the various options and strategies our firm can provide to protect their legacies. I have also realized that, through my experience in trust and probate litigation, I was gathering insight about the many pitfalls of poor planning and how to avoid them, which I can now share with our clients. Overall, it has been a joy to explore this new practice area, surrounded by such a wonderful team here at Lake Sumter Landing.
