McLin Burnsed, one of the oldest law firms in North Central Florida, recently announced the election of Sarah Uhrik to our Board of Directors as an equity member. Uhrik, who joined the firm in 2018 is an experienced tax attorney specializing in estate planning, probate, and business planning.
Phil Smith, the firm’s Managing Partner, credits Uhrik’s leadership within the firm and the strength of the relationships she has forged with her clients as the reason for her promotion. “Sarah routinely models the qualities we look for in an equity director at McLin Burnsed,” Smith said. “She is thoroughly committed to the growth and protection of the individuals she serves, and I am eager to see her assume a more significant leadership role in this new position.”
Over the course of its 50 years serving clients in Leesburg, The Villages and throughout the state of Florida, McLin Burnsed has been a leader in the communities it serves, as well as the legal profession. Uhrik’s promotion further exemplifies the firm’s values and its promise of excellence and service to clients above all else. While national data shows that only 19% of managing partners, 21% of equity partners and 31% of non-equity partners are women, McLin Burnsed sees Uhrik not only as the right person for this position but key to the firm’s future.
“Sarah’s education and experience positioned her to be a key player for the firm from the day we recruited her,” Jeff Skates, one of the firm’s Partners explained. “She has proven her dedication to our clients and her value to the team every day since.”
Uhrik earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida and Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, now known as the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. After being admitted to the Illinois Bar, she began her career focusing on civil litigation, estate planning, tax planning and corporate law. She later went on to earn her Master of Laws (LL.M.) in taxation, with honors, also from the John Marshall Law School. Uhrik returned to Florida in 2015 and joined McLin Burnsed in 2018.
“I’m proud to be part of a firm that consistently proves to be a leader in this profession,” Uhrik, the new equity director, said. “I’m thankful for the support and confidence the firm’s leaders have shown in me and couldn’t be more excited to help build on what McLin Burnsed has achieved over the last 50 years by continuing to serve our clients and our community with excellence for many years to come.”
The attorneys at McLin Burnsed have been active leaders in the community beyond their legal work, and Uhrik is no exception. She serves as a member of the Lake Sumter State College Executive Board, as an adjunct professor at Valencia College, and as a member of the Young Professionals Group of the Florida Law Network.
